Dolmar- chainsaw not cutting properly

Hi there,

I recently replaced the chain for my Dolmar PS-350 with a brand new chain that I just purchased. However it doesn’t seem to be cutting the way a new blade should, and the cuts are rough too. I checked the blade and sharpened it again today but no improvement. What is wrong with the unit?

Harry

Hello Harry,

If the chain is brand new then it’s definitely not a problem with the blade itself but most probably the way you installed it onto the chainsaw. Check the tension of the belt – if the tension is too low then the chain will not be able to effectively come in contact with the lumbar and provide a clean cut.

Dolmar- difficult to start my chainsaw

Hello guys,

I’ve noticed that it takes a lot more pulls of the starter rope to get my Dolmar PS-421 to start now, and even after starting the engine starts to sputter and choke. Why is this happening?

Finch

Hello Finch,

I think that your carburetor needs to be tuned according to the weather or the change in weather there – it sounds to me like the air fuel mixture you are using is too low and needs to be cranked up ever so slightly so that you are providing the engine with enough fuel for operation, especially in colder conditions.

Dolmar- too many strokes to cut with my chainsaw

Hi folks,

My Dolmar PS-420 has been serviced and sharpened recently but it doesn’t seem to be cutting with the same effectiveness as it used to, it requires many more strokes and a lot more pressure to cut wood of the same density compared to earlier. What could be behind this?

Randy

Hey Randy,

This sounds like your chain blades have become too thin, since you mention that you recently changed the blade. The most likely scenario is that your blade has lost too much metal and it is time for you to replace the chain with a new one.

Dolmar oil dripping from the blade

Hi everybody,

I just purchased my Dolmar PS-35 last week and used it a few times so far, always lubricating it as per the manual. However, oil seems to be dripping from the chain when I finish my cutting. Is this a cause for concern?

Edward

Hello Edward,

This is a perfectly normal condition, especially since your chainsaw is quite new and you have been lubricating it – as you should. There is no leak or anything of that sort, a slight drip of oil is actually a sign that the chainsaw has been properly lubricated.

Chainsaw blade not turning

Hello there,

I’ve had my Dolmar PS-510 for just under a year now and the blade belt has stopped turning when the engine is on. Is this a major mechanical fault?

Roland

Hi Roland,

If you are able to start the engine without much problem and are only facing an issue when it comes to the chain not turning, it is almost certainly a problem with the clutch. Check your clutch pads for wear and if they have worn out, replace them with new ones and everything should be back to normal

Chainsaw engine stalling again and again

Hello guys,

I bought my Dolmar PS-421 around 2 years ago and the engine has been deteriorating for a while, now it’s very difficult to get it to start at all. What could be causing this issue?

Melvin

Hi Melvin,

I think it’s almost certainly a problem with the air filter being clogged. Remember that filters need to be changed based on your location’s conditions, so if the air there is more dusty than usual you will need to change the filter more often to maintain optimum performance

Chainsaw kicking back too much

Hi folks,

I have lately been experiencing profound kickback on my Dolmar PS-5105. The chain braking system always turns of the blade safely but it is still unnerving and interrupts the process. How can I minimize this?

Kilton

Hey Kilton,

Are you trying to cut wood longitudinally, or along the straight section of the tree? Cutting longitudinally must be carried out by experienced cutters as the greater surface area that you subject your blade to can increase the risk of kickback. Also, make sure that your chainsaw’s bar does not come into contact with the trunk of the tree as far as possible.

Chainsaw engine not starting

Dear folks,

My 1 year old Dolmar PS-35 chainsaw’s engine is not starting. I have serviced it regularly and recently lubricated all major parts. Can someone help me figure this out?

Johnson

Hello Johnson,

Since you say your chainsaw is 1 year old I think it could be the spark plug that is most likely to be behind this issue – this is a part that start to wear out after a year unless you change it and I recommend that you inspect the spark plug as well as the circuitry and replace with new ones if necessary.
